There’s nothing quite like packing our gear and hitting the road early in the morning for a wedding road trip. However, this morning was particularly exciting. We were on the road to see Hayley and Heath get married…AND…it was the most incredibly sunny perfect summer’s day that we’d seen all year! After an obligatory bakery breakfast in Huntly, we arrived at the farm where the bridal party’s preparations were well underway. The girls greeted us in their cute robes Hayley had given them for the day and we could sense the good vibes in the air! Everyone looked amazing! Marnie Jade Makeup Artist – what an epic job! Alex’s mission was to find Heath and the boys at a house further down the farm….but they were no-where to be found. Of course, there was no phone signal out here. As he sat for a minute and pondered what to do he realized he’d missed something obvious. Sharp cracks rung out across the valley. It was the sound of shots! After a dusty drive across paddocks he found Heath and the boys, battery-powered builders radio blaring, drinking beer and firing shotguns at orange clay targets in the distance. What better way to start the day!? It wasn’t long before the boys encouraged him to take a shot. He missed. But it was awesome anyway!
Once everyone was ready, Hayley came over to the boys’ house as Heath awaited her arrival amongst overgrown grass and stacks of firewood. No wonder Heath was blown away – she looked crazy beautiful! We set off down the farm and had such fun playing with the bridal party and photographing the goings on. Everyone was so happy. Everything felt so comfortable. Like hanging with old friends! That’s definitely when the best photographs are made we reckon.
Unfortunately our picnicking and drinking beer from swappa crates had to come to an end…..it was time to be married!!
The 45 minute journey to Raglan was made in two beautiful classic American cars. We felt quite inferior following the convoy in our dusty Nissan! Once we arrived we were greeted with the most stunning backdrop for a wedding ceremony. Chairs laid out on low tide sand looking across Raglan Harbour. And as if the day hadn’t been perfect enough, we departed the ceremony site and wound our way through Raglan town to the surf club where we were greeted with a reception decorated like no other we’ve ever seen! It took an hour just to take it all in….all the incredible details and thoughtfulness that had gone into transforming that empty room into awesomeness. The view…..that view! Well, that was just the icing on the cake. I think Alex spent half the evening photographing the sun as it set around the point from the surf breaks (which weren’t looking too shabby this day by the way).
They partied. We partied. They danced. We danced. The little photo-booth was a hit and we wish we could have never left. Hayley and Heath…..what a blessing that you’d consider having us there to celebrate with you all! It was a day we’ll always remember!
Oh, and honorable mention to Kal their Rottweiler. He proudly walked around all day with a sign around his neck proclaiming “MY HUMANS ARE GETTING MARRIED”. Too cute!
