Stacey and Gareth’s incredibly beautiful Brick Bay wedding! Snells Beach / Matakana

Aah, Stacey and Gareth’s wedding day. One of our final weddings of 2012 and it was pretty much a day full of awesomeness! I dropped Coralee off in Matakana at the cutest little wooden cabin where Stacey and the girls were busy preparing for the day. Definitely an epic place to get ready. I didn’t dare pop my head into the girls’ zone….but quickly dropped Coralee off and headed towards Omaha Beach were Gareth and his groomsmen were staying. I arrived to a relaxed house of boys enjoying a beer. There might have even been cricket on TV. It took them no time at all to get into their suits and they topped it off with some awesome looking boutineers. So far this morning – I actually felt like I was inside Pinterest. Haha….everything just looked SO good!

Arriving at the venue we were, of course, greeted with so much more beautifulness it was difficult to take it all in. The yellow and grey theme just looked stunning! There was cute bunting for miles and the most amazing flowers adorning tables and decks and bars and everywhere imaginable. Stacey and Gareth’s ceremony took place on a lawn, in front of a tree covered in yellow ribbons rustling in the wind. To get to the lawn at Brick Bay you have to walk down a tree-covered lane. The trees have these crazy painted blue trunks. Its pretty surreal.

At Brick Bay you’re simply spoilt for choice with locations to take a bridal party for photos and we explored some of the gravelly pathways with art hiding around every corner. It was a GREAT afternoon. And then there was the reception…the party…the speeches…the dancing. What can we say!? The most good looking, friendly, smiling couple…..an incredible group of family and friends…..the most stunningly decorated venue……it was just a freaking awesome day. We feel blessed to have met these two and utterly honored that they chose us to be there and celebrate with everyone and tell the story in photographs!

Stacey, Gareth…we can’t thank you enough. I’m just packing up a little box of goodies for you now and am going to jump in my truck and pop them in your letterbox in person! We hope you enjoy your photographs as much as we enjoyed making them that day with you both :-)

Mandy and Andy – Engaged!

We love Mandy and Andy. Not just because their names rhyme, but because these two are people you want to be around! Mandy has the most infectious laugh, and Andy is absolutely smitten with his gal. It’s been five years!!

Today Alex and I celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary! What better way to celebrate than to photograph the lovely wedding of Saskia and Lance… especially when their reception venue (Duders in Devonport) is the same that we used for our big day! How coincidental is that?! But what I’m really looking forward to is our little treat of a holiday to Tonga next month. Seems a bit naughty in the middle of wedding season, but you only have a 5 year anniversary once right?

Wow how 5 years have flown. In that time we have finished student life, had one shoulder surgery, lived in Toronto for a year,  traveled to Cuba, definitely had a fair share of fights and make-ups, left a teaching career and a PhD, moved house 3 times, became parents to our beloved furry daughter, made special memories surfing and beaching together on summer holidays with our friend whanau, missed a plane flight, become Auntie and Uncle again and again, became FULL TIME in our business, travelled and photographed weddings in Europe, and so much more!

I’m not one for much PDA, but what I will say is that life with Alex is definitely an amazing adventure. SO MUCH FUN! Bring on the next 5!

Hayley & Heath’s EXTRAORDINARY Raglan Wedding!

There’s nothing quite like packing our gear and hitting the road early in the morning for a wedding road trip. However, this morning was particularly exciting. We were on the road to see Hayley and Heath get married…AND…it was the most incredibly sunny perfect summer’s day that we’d seen all year! After an obligatory bakery breakfast in Huntly, we arrived at the farm where the bridal party’s preparations were well underway. The girls greeted us in their cute robes Hayley had given them for the day and we could sense the good vibes in the air! Everyone looked amazing! Marnie Jade Makeup Artist - what an epic job! Alex’s mission was to find Heath and the boys at a house further down the farm….but they were no-where to be found. Of course, there was no phone signal out here. As he sat for a minute and pondered what to do he realized he’d missed something obvious. Sharp cracks rung out across the valley. It was the sound of shots! After a dusty drive across paddocks he found Heath and the boys, battery-powered builders radio blaring, drinking beer and firing shotguns at orange clay targets in the distance. What better way to start the day!? It wasn’t long before the boys encouraged him to take a shot. He missed. But it was awesome anyway!

Once everyone was ready, Hayley came over to the boys’ house as Heath awaited her arrival amongst overgrown grass and stacks of firewood. No wonder Heath was blown away – she looked crazy beautiful! We set off down the farm and had such fun playing with the bridal party and photographing the goings on. Everyone was so happy. Everything felt so comfortable. Like hanging with old friends! That’s definitely when the best photographs are made we reckon.

Unfortunately our picnicking and drinking beer from swappa crates had to come to an end…..it was time to be married!!

The 45 minute journey to Raglan was made in two beautiful classic American cars. We felt quite inferior following the convoy in our dusty Nissan! Once we arrived we were greeted with the most stunning backdrop for a wedding ceremony. Chairs laid out on low tide sand looking across Raglan Harbour. And as if the day hadn’t been perfect enough, we departed the ceremony site and wound our way through Raglan town to the surf club where we were greeted with a reception decorated like no other we’ve ever seen! It took an hour just to take it all in….all the incredible details and thoughtfulness that had gone into transforming that empty room into awesomeness. The view…..that view! Well, that was just the icing on the cake. I think Alex spent half the evening photographing the sun as it set around the point from the surf breaks (which weren’t looking too shabby this day by the way).

They partied. We partied. They danced. We danced. The little photo-booth was a hit and we wish we could have never left. Hayley and Heath…..what a blessing that you’d consider having us there to celebrate with you all! It was a day we’ll always remember!

Oh, and honorable mention to Kal their Rottweiler. He proudly walked around all day with a sign around his neck proclaiming “MY HUMANS ARE GETTING MARRIED”. Too cute!

maryam - First off I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing. I have had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Many thanks!

Adventures in Riomaggiore, Italy

HAPPY 2013 everyone! We have been a bit quiet lately as we took some time off to rejuvenate over the new years period! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and new year!

During the 2012 winter, Alex and I were so incredibly lucky to travel to Europe to photograph a handful of weddings. We also spent a good chunk of time traveling around and photographing the sights! It was so amazing and I guess the whole 3 month trip is kind of a huge blur! Tonight I found myself going back through our photos and remembering all those amazing (blurry) memories! One of my favourite places we visited was Riomaggiore in Italy. I think when we were there, Alex and I discussed that we would like to retire there. It was a dream. Anyway I thought it was about time that we share some of our photos! I hope you enjoy!
