Hayley & Heath’s EXTRAORDINARY Raglan Wedding!

There’s nothing quite like packing our gear and hitting the road early in the morning for a wedding road trip. However, this morning was particularly exciting. We were on the road to see Hayley and Heath get married…AND…it was the most incredibly sunny perfect summer’s day that we’d seen all year! After an obligatory bakery breakfast in Huntly, we arrived at the farm where the bridal party’s preparations were well underway. The girls greeted us in their cute robes Hayley had given them for the day and we could sense the good vibes in the air! Everyone looked amazing! Marnie Jade Makeup Artist - what an epic job! Alex’s mission was to find Heath and the boys at a house further down the farm….but they were no-where to be found. Of course, there was no phone signal out here. As he sat for a minute and pondered what to do he realized he’d missed something obvious. Sharp cracks rung out across the valley. It was the sound of shots! After a dusty drive across paddocks he found Heath and the boys, battery-powered builders radio blaring, drinking beer and firing shotguns at orange clay targets in the distance. What better way to start the day!? It wasn’t long before the boys encouraged him to take a shot. He missed. But it was awesome anyway!

Once everyone was ready, Hayley came over to the boys’ house as Heath awaited her arrival amongst overgrown grass and stacks of firewood. No wonder Heath was blown away – she looked crazy beautiful! We set off down the farm and had such fun playing with the bridal party and photographing the goings on. Everyone was so happy. Everything felt so comfortable. Like hanging with old friends! That’s definitely when the best photographs are made we reckon.

Unfortunately our picnicking and drinking beer from swappa crates had to come to an end…..it was time to be married!!

The 45 minute journey to Raglan was made in two beautiful classic American cars. We felt quite inferior following the convoy in our dusty Nissan! Once we arrived we were greeted with the most stunning backdrop for a wedding ceremony. Chairs laid out on low tide sand looking across Raglan Harbour. And as if the day hadn’t been perfect enough, we departed the ceremony site and wound our way through Raglan town to the surf club where we were greeted with a reception decorated like no other we’ve ever seen! It took an hour just to take it all in….all the incredible details and thoughtfulness that had gone into transforming that empty room into awesomeness. The view…..that view! Well, that was just the icing on the cake. I think Alex spent half the evening photographing the sun as it set around the point from the surf breaks (which weren’t looking too shabby this day by the way).

They partied. We partied. They danced. We danced. The little photo-booth was a hit and we wish we could have never left. Hayley and Heath…..what a blessing that you’d consider having us there to celebrate with you all! It was a day we’ll always remember!

Oh, and honorable mention to Kal their Rottweiler. He proudly walked around all day with a sign around his neck proclaiming “MY HUMANS ARE GETTING MARRIED”. Too cute!

maryam - First off I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing. I have had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Many thanks!

Adventures in Riomaggiore, Italy

HAPPY 2013 everyone! We have been a bit quiet lately as we took some time off to rejuvenate over the new years period! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and new year!

During the 2012 winter, Alex and I were so incredibly lucky to travel to Europe to photograph a handful of weddings. We also spent a good chunk of time traveling around and photographing the sights! It was so amazing and I guess the whole 3 month trip is kind of a huge blur! Tonight I found myself going back through our photos and remembering all those amazing (blurry) memories! One of my favourite places we visited was Riomaggiore in Italy. I think when we were there, Alex and I discussed that we would like to retire there. It was a dream. Anyway I thought it was about time that we share some of our photos! I hope you enjoy!

Kathy’s birthday suprise!

Rachael and Will are an awesome couple and we’re lucky enough to be hanging with them both photographing their wedding day later this year. It turns out, Rachael’s mum,Kathy, is also a keen follower of ours! I think we can probably thank Kathy for pointing Rachael and Will in our direction in the first place! Anyway, Rachael asked us to come to Kathy’s surprise birthday party as a……..well….surprise. I think it worked too! The garden was laid out with the most amazing green themed treats (Kathy’s favourite colour) and we had a blast shocking Kathy with our presence and hanging with the family and friends before capturing a few family photographs for good measure. What a fun bunch! We can’t wait for round two – Rachael and Will’s wedding in December!!!! C&A xx

Sarah and Nickson – Engaged, Ponsonby

Sarah and Nickson! aah….perhaps our new best friends – well, we hope so. Such fun peeps to be around and just obviously crazy head over heels in love with each other. We almost postponed our little engagement shoot because of rain, but we’re glad we didn’t…..Spent an afternoon exploring sone new and familiar spots around our local ‘hood. Every one of these images was made less than 1.5km of where we live in Grey Lynn! Excuse us if we went over the top with the tiled wall! We’ve been hanging out to photograph someone there for ages! We even visited it twice…once in the rain…and once when it dried out. And to top it all off…..Hubba Bubba! Sarah had been practicing – but in the end it was Nickson who was the master at blowing bubbles. Perhaps he’s kept the skill alive since his childhood :-) A great afternoon spent with new mates….it doesn’t get much better than that!

Maria and Jason – Mudbrick, Waiheke Island Wedding

Maria and Jason are the type of people you want in your lives! So friendly, and warm. We actually love them to bits! Their wedding took place on most epic sunny day on Waiheke Island at Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant. It was a busy morning with a Chinese tea ceremony and Maria’s bridesmaids putting Jase and his groomsmen through a serious of tough (but hilarious!) challenges before he was finally allowed to greet his beautiful bride. I think Jase may have even been made to lick peanut butter off one of his groomsmen’s cheeks… We wanted to include some of these photos in this blog post but it would have made it too mammoth! After the tea ceremony, Maria got changed from her red traditional Chinese dress into her stunning fishtail style wedding gown. They then had a “first look” on the beach, followed by bridal party photos. The sun was bright and high in the sky, but we love how summery the images turned out!

During the ceremony….Jase got down on one knee and said his vows to Maria because he hadn’t gotten onto one knee when he proposed. It was super cute….there was tears all around – us included :-)

We’re struggling for things to describe how awesome this day was…so you’ll just have to take a look for yourselves! Wonderful couple! Perfect day! Yup, it was amazing!
